Pulse Control of Decoherence with Population Decay

We study the pulse control of decoherence in a qubit focusing on the general case where qubit-environment interactions induce decoherence with population decay as well as pure dephasing. We examine how the decoherence is suppressed by pulse sequences of bitand/or phase-flips. To do so, we present a method to calculate the time evolution of a qubit under such pulse sequences. We show that the pulse sequence consisting of both bitand phase-flips is more effective than that consisting of only bit-flips in suppressing both pure dephasing and decoherence with population decay.
